About The Retreat
I am so excited and honored to announce that this December one of my spiritual mentors, Auntie Alison, indigenous elder and representative for the AP community at Uluru, is coming to Sydney for a week of healing at my Avalon studio!
On Sunday 9th she will be welcomed to the peninsula by Uncle Glen Yarnold, elder for the Darkingjang region, and his sister, who will perform the traditional Welcome to Country, ahead of Aunties' four hour workshop on the same day.
This is a first on both levels as neither Auntie or Uncle Glen have been to Avalon before. I'm sure you'll appreciate what an incredible privilege it is to have them both at our community studio.
ABOUT AUNTIE ALISON HUNT
Auntie Alison Hunt is a strong and well known Pitjantjatjara/Western Arrernte elder and healer who has worked actively over the last 45 years as an important advocate and a strong voice for her people and has also been an active cultural consultant and board member for various Central Australian Aboriginal organizations and councils, and also to various State and Federal Government ministers, Prime ministers, Indigenous Human Rights advocates, members of the Royal family, and His Holiness The 14th Dalai Lama.
As a speaker, mediator, facilitator, and also as a powerful traditional healer in her own right, she brings to her own work a wealth of personal experience in indigenous women’s law and culture and carries the full support of her tribal elders across both the AP Lands (Anangu Pitjantjatjara-Yankunytjatjara lands) and throughout Central Australia. Her work also carries enormous cultural responsibility in both representing and reporting back to her tribal elders.
In her personal healing sessions, Auntie Alison works closely with the assistance of her senior elders and also her ancestral guides, and combines traditional massage, a potent bush remedy known as ‘aratja’, and traditional smoke treatments. Her potent healing hands have supported the well being of hundreds of clients from all over Australia and abroad in alleviating body pains and aches, and supporting the release and healing of emotional trauma, depression, and personal blockages.
THE WORKSHOP
The workshop will be an interactive experience with Auntie sharing cultural wisdom, indigenous protocols, traditional stories and answering your questions. Auntie's male assistant, Pinrada, will join us in the morning for some added teachings as well. Pinrada works with Auntie each time she visits Melbourne, and it is a great honor to have him share his stories with us in Sydney.
Indigenous cultural talks and workshops are a wonderful opportunity for non-indigenous Australians and visitors from abroad to broaden their awareness about traditional Aboriginal culture and gain valuable insights from a real Central Australian indigenous elder into cultural subjects such as: traditional customs and practices, traditional life in the desert, bush remedies and bush foods, and also in understanding contemporary issues faced by indigenous people today such as; lands rights and community health. In these workshops, participants will interact with and learn directly from Auntie Alison.
We'll start with two hours in the morning, 10am - 12pm, with a lengthy lunch break, then followed by another two hours in the afternoon, from 2pm - 4pm. The format is relatively fluid so be prepared to go a little over time in case.
We ask that you bring a plate to share so we can all stay in the studio for lunch to help keep the energy connected and contained, but please remember, we are a NO PLASTIC studio. There are plenty of vegetarian and healthy alternative cafes in the village where you can buy something last minute, as well as plenty of venues for coffee and assorted drinks.
